What being an Engineer is like ? ( First Year Edition )

Hello friends ,

I understand that the blog , as the name suggests should be all technical but I personally feel to add a little more from our end , hence I've decided to openly express the views and thoughts on various things that we come across in our daily lives.

So Friends , As the title suggests , It's pretty clear that I'm an Engineer in making and going through what every to-be engineer goes through !

First Year : The Year You are filled with Emotions  ; )

Now , the first year my friends is the year many of us step outside our protective world and enter the professional world for the first time . Now , for a broad approach , i'll assume many of us are denied admissions in our dream college ( for various reasons ) and it crushes us ( trust me it does , happened to me ) , for those who were accepted , Life is bit of relief now , isn't it ?

So , As we start meeting new people and start adapting to our new environment , we see all friendly faces which are ready to offer a hand in almost everything ( Yes !, they do ) , and gradually start making friends and start getting homesick( for some ).Here , We meet some of our best-companions and some of worst woes . But eventually we all get along , as the suffering ( what i'd like to call the classes etc) is same .

Now , As you would have guessed , comes the " FORMAL INTRODUCTION " part or " RAGGING", fortunately , i was between sensible seniors who believed in treating us equally than inferior . Nevertheless , We were the new superman, phantoms ,007's and even Dominic Toretto's of our campus for a week . But as I look back , it was kind bittersweet and Of Course a new way to make companions and friends .

As time passes , we ( the new-in-making engineers ) are informed of the only nightmare in our whole curriculum , " failure or backs ", they are explained so thoroughly that no room for doubt for it is left . At the end of the day , we're heavily exposed to the fact that what we're looking for is not something put on shelves and up-for-grabs , after all it's a cut-throat world ( Same as GoT :D ) .

Next , All we remember are the classes , crushes and assignments . For me , fortunately they were something to take my mind off the tiring and gruesome routine . The teachers are(generally ) result oriented and my classmates ( most ) were muggers ( "maggu" as they're familiarised )  , followed by night's of hard work and endless parties ( they even go-on during classes ).

Then comes the time for exams ( not the class room ones) , The Semesters ( Or the 3-hour long Brain storm programme Our Uni's prepared ) ,  these are primarily focused on the knowledge we were supposed to mug and spill out our answer sheets . For some , they're like relatives , they come , we suffer and then they go , and we're back to happy , but for some , they're like the ultimate test to prove their worthiness ( yes , we all go through this ).

Finally , After a long wait , Results arrive ,  And we're sadly seen divided by marks.

Following this , the whole cycle is repeated for the next Sem as well , and the parties and  night study ( What we used call ) are increased considerably .

Till now , you might have wondered about how long and boring it is , but once you've experienced it , it's all you can think of . Those infamous b'day bashes , the night-long discussions , the hardest part : morning classes and the bunks are all things which describe your first year .

Please stay tuned for the Second Year Edition. Comments and Suggestions as said , will be taken in good faith and spirit .

Thanks,
Ritesh Srivastava
